Fees
I charge $50 per hour for copyediting. It naturally takes longer to dive deep into a line edit than to give a manuscript one last buff and polish.
My fee for manuscript evaluation is $0.015 per word, with a minimum fee of $800.
For new clients, I require a 50% down payment of the projected total fee. A portion of this payment, prorated against the work I have done to date, may be refundable if you choose to cancel the project.
Schedule
Copyediting typically takes three to four weeks for a manuscript of 60,000 to 120,000 words. Manuscript evaluations take four to six weeks.
Before we commit to your project, we’ll firm up the delivery schedule and get it in writing.
Agreement
Before we get started, I’ll ask you to sign a simple contract that specifies the work I’ll be doing, the date on which you can expect it to be completed, and the terms by which you’ll be invoiced for the balance of my fee. This contract protects us both, and in that spirit I’m open to negotiating its terms.
Payment
I’ll send an invoice once I’ve completed your work; payment is due seven days from receipt.
I accept checks for down payments. Final invoices may be paid by check or ACH transfer. I am happy to discuss other payment methods, but any processing fees will be your responsibility.
Payments will be considered complete only when funds are fully cleared.
